A native of Brazil, Ananda Mirilli has a long history of community engagement, advocacy and education in the U.S. and abroad. Her work started as a social justice activist at age 14 in Rio de Janeiro. She spent 7 years there working with a variety of populations, including children with different abilities, seniors experiencing poverty and youth experiencing homelessness.
After moving to the U.S., Ananda coupled her commitment to social justice with education, leadership and equity and founded Vortices Consulting, a firm that supports organizations in their commitment to develop and transform educational, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Through her coordination of family and community leadership efforts for the Madison Metropolitan School District, Ananda implemented a leadership pipeline for parents while bridging their relationship and access to community resources. A Restorative Justice Circle expert, she has facilitated trainings for youth and adults to engage in building community, developing leadership and taking part in a liberation process for all people. Ananda strongly believes that by being in community and sharing our experiences, we can co-create meaningful relationships, foster supportive and empowered communities and enhance school and community climate.
Ananda holds a master’s degree in Education Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin and a bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Psychology. In Madison, Wisconsin, Ananda is a former board member of Nuestro Mundo bilingual school and Unidos Against Domestic Violence. She is the Treasurer for the Latino Education Council, Board Chair of Forward Community Investment and Co-Chair of Communities United, grassroots social justice coalition and Board Member of Madison Area Technical College. Lastly, Ananda is a proud and dedicated mother to her fifteen-years old daughter Breana.
